(a b/w photo hand coloured by Llandudno Enthusiasts)

A 3'6" gauge electric tramway operated between these two North Wales seaside resorts
via Rhos-on-Sea from 19th October 1907 until 24th March 1956

Replica Open-Top Double Deck Tram No.7

Saturday 20th October 2007
=====================

Hauled run by the 1943 Matador "Mighty Muriel"
along the full length of the former tramway

including the extension to Old Colwyn which closed in 1930

Although the tramway closed over 50 years ago, the old tram shelter still survives 100 years after the opening of the tramway

before the hauled run

"If only someone would put the tracks back......."
Replica Tram No.7 rounds the old tram shelter before setting off on its historic journey along the route of the former tramway

Replica Tram No.7 sets off for Colwyn Bay
the old single-track tramway was just to the right of the trees in the central reservation
Unfortunately the through route across Bodafon Fields
is no longer available, so a diversion was made along Nant-y-Gamar Road to the Promenade
as far as Bryn-y-Bia Road

just like the replacement "Red Buses" did from 1956 untill they were taken over by Crosville
Clearly "Llandudno" welcomes "Mighty Muriel" and

Such was the interest in No.7 from well-wishers, the tram remained in the
centre of Colwyn Bay much longer than was originally envisaged

It was surprising just how many people wanted to see an operational tram back in their town - not just Llandudno !

After continuing along the "Old Colwyn" extension which closed in 1930, "Mightly Muriel" hauled Replica Tram No.7 from the terminus at the former Queen's Hotel to the top of Penmaen Head for a well deserved rest

The Replica Tram No.7 then returned to the old 1915-1930 terminus at the former Queen's Hotel, Old Colwyn......

.......before returning to Rhos-on-Sea promenade, much later than originally envisaged, mainly due to delays caused by overwhelming interest throughout the day
